What is NDIS exercise physiology?

Exercise Physiology Under the NDIS

NDIS exercise physiology refers to evidence-based exercise programs delivered by an accredited exercise physiologist (AEP) to eligible NDIS participants as part of their funded support plan. Exercare provides mobile NDIS exercise physiology services across south-east Melbourne, supporting participants who are plan-managed or self-managed.

Exercise physiology under the NDIS focuses on helping participants build physical capacity, improve function, and work towards the independence and participation goals outlined in their plan. Our AEPs design individualised programs that address the specific functional impacts of a participant's disability, delivered in the most practical and meaningful environment for their daily life — whether that's at home, at a local gym, hydrotherapy pool, park, or via telehealth.

Funding category: NDIS exercise physiology is typically funded under Capacity Building — Improved Daily Activities (Support Category 07) or Improved Health and Wellbeing (Category 06), depending on your plan goals.

Common questions

NDIS Exercise Physiology FAQs

Do I need a referral for NDIS exercise physiology?

No. You do not need a GP referral and exercise physiology doesn't need to be specifically named in your plan. You simply need Capacity Building funding. If you're unsure, check with your support coordinator or call us.

How many NDIS sessions can I have?

The number of sessions is determined by your NDIS plan budget and goals. Most participants access weekly or fortnightly sessions initially, transitioning to monthly maintenance sessions over time. Your exercise physiologist will recommend a frequency at your initial assessment.

What reports does Exercare provide for the NDIS?

We provide initial assessment reports, session progress notes, periodic progress reports for plan reviews, and goal attainment summaries. All documentation meets NDIS quality standards.

Can Exercare work with my support coordinator?

Yes. We regularly liaise with support coordinators, plan managers, and other members of a participant's support team to ensure a coordinated approach to care.

Is Exercare a registered NDIS provider?

Exercare is currently working towards full NDIS registration. We currently accept plan-managed and self-managed participants. We cannot currently work with agency-managed participants.
